British researchers reported that stomach curved stapler stapling suture morbid obesity treatment is safe and feasible. If combined with gastric bypass surgery is better.
Leeds General Hospital N. Featherstone and colleagues used alone vertical gastric stapling or gastric suture suture suture combination of vertical Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery effects were studied. The subjects were 100 cases of morbidly obese patients, of which 80 cases were Magenstrasse and Mill (MM) stapler suture, the remaining 20 patients received a combination of MM Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (MM-GB).
MM group, the median age Linear Stapler was 39 years, mean body mass index (BMI) of 45.9 kg/m2, male to female ratio of 1:4. MM-GB group, the median age was 40 years, mean body mass index was 45.8 kg/m2, male to female ratio of 1:3. MM group, the average follow-up time was 36 months, MM-GB group, the average follow-up time was 15 months.
Two groups were no operative deaths and serious postoperative complications. MM group, the average length of stay was 7 days, MM-GB group, the average was 10 days.
After a year, MM group mean weight loss of 38.6 kg (standard deviation (SD) of 15.1 kg), MM-GB Reusable Surgical Stapler group lost an average of 50.4kg (SD of 8.4 kg). Compared with preoperative, MM group weight loss 30% (SD of 8.3%), MM-GB group weight loss 36% (SD of 3.2%) (p = 0.03).
The researchers conclude that in the specialty surgical wards, stomach stapling suture treatment of morbid obesity is safe. MM-GB can be combined if the weight loss Manufacture Surgical Stapler is more obvious, but there may be long-term complications of gastric bypass surgery.
